St Brendans (Boys) N.S and St Ita's (girls) N.S win Manning primary schools event.

Seven local primary schools descended like a blue haze on Bushfield, the grounds of Loughrea athletic club with the aim of winning the Manning primary schools event. After all the events were completed (which included long jump, ball throw,100m,400m,600m 800m,and relays) St Brendan's boys school and St. Ita's girls school emerged as winners. There was huge excitement for those children competing and there seems to be plenty of young running talent around Loughrea.

Six to go for Jarlath.

Jarlath Fitzgerald completed marathons in Nashville, Tennessee and Hallsted, Essex recently.Battling high temperatures, fatigue and marathons coming in quick succession, Jarlath has hit a wall of sorts and is finding the going tough.
Despite this he remains determined to complete 100 marathons in 2009.Next up for Jarlath is Newry , Co Down on May 25th,followed by Cork on June 1st.He will have two months off and plans to run the inaugural Dingle marathon in September. This will be marathon number ninety seven, with 100 being ran in Barbados in December.

THREE DOWN, THREE TO GO!!!!

The increased numbers of club members taking part in the 5K series is due in no small way to the success of the FIT4LIFE programme. Well done to all concerned in promoting this project.

The times produced over the first 3 races has been very consistent and in many cases you can see an improvement from week to week.

Hopefully over the next 3 races we will see a further improvement--but remember---TAKING PART IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING!!!!

When the 5K series is over there will be lots of other road races.

So, HERE'S TO A GREAT SUMMER OF RUNNING!!

kilcornan 8km.

Loughrea athletic club's Fionnuala Keane, was the winner of the ladies section of the 8km race organised by the predator triathalon club last weekend.
The race which was held in the grounds of the brothers of charity,Kilcornan,Clarinbridge on Sunday, was mostly off-road with only about 700m on tarmac. This accounted for the slower than usual times.
Fionnuala's finishing time was 32 minutes 21 seconds.Fionnuala is now resident in Dublin, and it is to her credit that she still runs in the blue and yellow singlet of Loughrea.
