The joy of running was there for all to see in Dangan on Tuesday last as the curtain came down on an incredible series of races--glorious sunshine, happy (and sweaty!!) faces, friendly rivalry and not a cross word exchanged among the many competitors. The only downside is that we must now find something else to do on Tuesday nights.

The club had 19 finishers in Dangan and afterwards enjoyed the food, drink and chat in the Westwood.

The penultimate (or ultimate if your from Loughrea) leg of the 5km series was held in Loughrea on Tuesday last with a big field of 400 plus athletes taking on big ben aka 'Tulla hill'.In previewing the series I likened it to the olympics and to set the record straight this was meant from a cultural perspective.

The following are the dates,times and events for the above mentioned series for 2009.Venue is the track in Dangan,Galway.
June 4th @8.00pm
Track Distance medley relay (1200m,400m,800m,1600m)
100m,800m.
Field Shot putt,long jump.

June 18th @8.00pm
Track 200m,1500m,4 by 400m,
Field Javelin,High jump.

June 25th @8.00pm
Track 400m,5000m,4 by100m.
Field Discus.

Pre entry is encouraged contact paul@athleticsireland.ie ,Entry also on the night 5 euro per evening (covers all events on that evening) with payment on the night.

T.J Beatty competed in the European masters half marathon in Denmark.He was very pleased with his time of 1 hour and 39 minutes (which earned him 10th place overall) which was ran in a temperature of 27 degrees.Needless to say T.J was thirsty after this effort.
Indeed T.J could have been forgiven for being in celebration mode as the day before the half marathon he was part of the X country relay team (which included GCH runner Martin McEvilly) that captured european bronze medals.

All adjustments possible, done after study of video of finish.

Some numbers were covered as the athletes crossed the line and some athletes were carrying their numbers in their hands so it was impossible to identify every finisher.

At the AAI games were held in Tullamore recently Mary Barrett was second in both shot and discus.Laura Shaughnessy,Melissa Barrett and Conor O' Brien qualified for the all-Ireland schools athletics championships to be held in Tullamore on Saturday.We wish them well.

Darragh O'Brien had an impressive outing in the Carramore 10K (Co.Mayo) on Sat.16th last.

Finishing in 13th place his finishing time was 36 minutes 5 seconds.

Next item on the Chairman's agenda---a sub 36 10K!!!!!

Jarlath Fitzgerald completed marathon no. 95 in Newry on Monday,25th May.
After a warm weather start the rain arrived at about mile 22.
Because of his heavy marathon schedule in recent months, Jarlath took it easy and completed the 26.2 miles in 4 hours 33 minutes.
