The Manning Perpetual Trophies

The Manning Perpetual Trophies inter-schools event will take place on Tuesday 15th of April at 6pm in the local Loughrea Athletic club grounds in Bushfield.

Louis Manning (formally of Barrack Street Loughrea and now living in Canada) has kindly sponsored this event in memory of his Parents.

The seven local primary schools taking part will be St. Brendan’s Boys NS, St. Ita’s Girls NS, Gaelscoil Riabhach, Leitrim NS, Kilnadeema NS, Bullaun NS and Mullagh NS

Fit for life 2008

Loughrea athletic club is organising a walk / jog / Running meet and train every Friday evening around Corry's field at 7.30 pm . Meet at the car park beside entrance to Corry's field.

This is a 8 week course starting on friday 11 april 2008, where particpants will have the opportunity to walk, jog or run with members of the local athletics club at a relaxed pace.

All are welcome male and female. tell your friends

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS--OSAKA, JAPAN: Sat 24th Aug to Sun.2nd Sept.

Best wishes to Olive Loughnane (Loughrea AC) who will be competing in the 20k walk on day 7 of the world championships----Sat. 31st Aug.

Olive competed in her first world championships in Paris in 2003 where she finished a highly creditable 12th. Gillian O'Sullivan took the silver medal for Ireland in the same event.

Olive has competed in 2 Olympic Games---Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004.

A total of 28 countries and 45 athletes will be represented in the 20k walk.

Mary Barrett takes 5 medals in Tullamore

The AAI/Woodie’s DIY Masters Track & Field Championships took place last Saturday and Loughrea AC’s Mary Barrett had a fantastic day of competition, claiming gold medals in no fewer than four competitions and silver in yet another. In the javelin competition Mary threw 22.79m for first place in her category (V3). She followed this up with another gold-medal performance in the women’s shot put, throwing 9.02m in the third round for 1st place.
