Olive loughnane wins 5000m racewalk national title.

It was a good day out at santry stadium for olive loughnane as she won gold in the racewalking event at the all ireland senior track and field championships . This was a timely win for olive who posted a personal best time of 21.07.28 six seconds faster than before, clearly the altitude training in font romeu has paid off , and olive can now approach the olympic games knowing she is in the form of her life.The club is rightly proud of her achievements and wishes the beijing bound starlet the very best entering her third olympic games.

Galway T&F series day 3

The final day of the galway track and field series was held thursday last on dangan track. loughrea ac athletes fared well in both track and field, competitions, daniel loughnane won the mens 400m in a time of 51.9s followed home by clubmate ferdy whelan in 55.2s who took bronze.mary barrett won the shot putt with a 10.00m throw, marie reily won the bronze with a throw of 6.11m. laura shaughnessy continued her excellent form winning the ladies 3000m in 10.37.4 she won her second medal in the 400m in 65.1s.

All Ireland T&F championships u-13 to u-19

The above mentioned track and field championships were held over the last two weekends in antrim and tullamore respectively . pride of place must go to laura shaughnessy who won gold in the 2000m steeplechase in a time of 7.30 in her debut outing , by all accounts laura has a talent for the event -she followed this win with a bronze medal the next day in the 3000m in a time of 10.45.02 .Emmet creaven competed in the long jump clearing 5.37m which earned him a top ten finish.

Galway T&F Day 2 Results

Loughrea ac athletes fared well in day 2 of the galway track and field held in dangan recently. laura shaughnessy won the ladies 1500m in a time of 4:56.6 followed home in second place by clubmate caroline clancy in a time of 5:00.6 . in the javelin mary barrett threw 20.78 to claim gold and marie reily threw 15.71 to claim bronze. finally daniel loughnane won the mens 200m in an impressive 23.6 . well done to all loughrea ac athletes on winning hard earned county track medals.the final day of track competition is tomorrow thursday july 17th.

Enniskillen and clare people 10km reports

caroline clancy travelled north to compete in the enniskillen 10km road race and ran a pb of 40.27 finishing second in the senior ladies race. the course was on road, wood,200m on track a savage hill at the 8km and a bridge thrown in at the end .caroline described the course as very different but nice, overall very enjoyable.

Galway T & F day 1

loughrea ac athletes brought home three gold and two silver from day 1 of the galway track and field held in dangan track on june19 . daniel loughnane won his gold in the mens 800m in a time of 2:01:2 laura shaughnessy won the ladies 800m in a time of 2:24:37 the final gold was won by mary barrett in the discus in a throw of 25.45m.laura shaughnessy won two silver medals in the 100m 14.3 and long jump 4.25m.these medals were hard earned and the club would like to congratulate all three on fine wins.

six loughrea ac athletes donned the maroon of galway in the national league aka mazda league in tullamore on sunday june 15th . olive loughnane took time off her olympic preparations to win the 1500m walk lapping the second placed walker and showing what a team player she is, club coach mary barrett picked up valueable points in both discus and javelin.
