Mary Barret competed in the World Championship Indoor Masters in Kamloop in Canada this week. Mary took flight to Canada on Sunday 28th February and is returning home tomorrow the 6th of March, with 2 bronze and 1 silver. She won Bronze in the Pentathlon, Bronze in the High Jump and silver in the Shot. Such an impressive performance, after Air Canada Loosing her luggage leaving Mary only with the clothes she had on her, she even had a to go and buy a new pair of spikes to compete in the pentathlon!
The last day of February brought over 160 Athletes to compete in the Kilconeiron 8k road race. A Cool, crisp, dry day, ideal conditions for a road race. Loughrea Athletes were in top gear.
Three female Loughrea athletes won in their categories. Fionnuala Keane was the first senior woman home in a time of 31.38, her sister Annette Keane followed in 36.34 to win the over 40’s category and to top the hat trick off Judith Roache won the over 55 category.
Paul Keane finished 4th overall in a speedy time of 28.48.
Mary Barret is to compete in the World Championship Indoor Masters in Canada. Mary will be taking flight to Canada on the 1st of March to the 6th. She will be competing in the High Jump and Shot put and the pentathlon.
Mary has been a very successful athlete in field events over the years and still is.
Fit 4 Life is changed to 7.30 this Thursday, after run all club members are meeting in Katherine's Kitchen for "A Club presentation" and "Tea & Coffee".
Six Galway Athletics Clubs will once again come together to organise a series of low-key, no-frills 5km roads races around the county on six consecutive Tuesday evenings from the 27th of April 2010 through to the 1st of June 2010. The Athenry, Clare River Harriers, Craughwell, Galway City Harriers Loughrea and Tuam clubs have organised a similar series of races for the last four years and the initiative has proven very popular.
Five athletes travelled to the cold Nenagh Indoor Track for Valentines week-end.

Melissa Barret 1st in the Shot.
Emmet Creaven 3rd in Long Jump, 60m Sprint and 4th in in the Triple Jump.
Justin Cooney competed in the Long Jump and Emer Larkin competed in the 60 m Sprint and the Long Jump.

Jane-Anne Healy (Athenry AC) is organising a trial run in Connemara on Sat.27th Feb. Buses leaving from various locations----starting at 7am.

Loughrea Athletes have been competing in many events around the county and further afield. The winter blues had little effect on their
performances.
TUAM 8K January 17th
Tuam 8k 17th January 2010, Judith Roache won the F55 category in 41.19 and then went on to win the F55 category in the prolonged fields of Athenry 10k held on the 24th January in a time of 52.08 so well done Judith.
